So maybe you’ve decided, are considering or already started the keto diet and are wondering what kind of foods you shouldn’t be eating anymore, or maybe it’s unclear what foods to avoid on a keto diet. That’s a good question, right!?
Before we start getting into it, I believe that it’s important to understand what macronutrients are to fully understand what a carb (carbohydrate) is. Any carbs should be consumed in moderation on the keto diet as it should only account for 5% of your daily macronutrient intake. As you probably know by now, you need to consume a diet consisting of high fat and low carbs. Foods to avoid on a keto diet are grains, bread, sweets, beans, pasta, rice, most fruits and high-carbs vegetables such as corn, peas, beets and potatoes. Some higher-carbs vegetables can be used in small portion and in moderation such as carrots, onions (specially caramelized) and root vegetables. The important factor here is using them sparingly and limiting their intake. The best way to know if you are consuming the proper macronutrients, specially at first as you get accustomed to the new lifestyle, is to track what you eat or look it up. As you get started, its easier to aim at completely staying away from carbs altogether. They are sneaky and even when trying to not consume them, you will still end up getting some from some vegetables you will be consuming.
